MOSCOW. Nov 1 (Interfax) - Russia will not send troops to Afghanistan under any circumstances, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a Monday press conference in Moscow after talks with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle.
"That is absolutely excluded. Our forces will not return to Afghanistan. This is an unwavering position," he stressed.
As for the recent joint anti-drug operation in Afghanistan, Lavrov said that Russia provided nothing but information support.
"That was a tripartite operation performed by special units of the Afghan Interior Ministry with the assistance of U.S. servicemen. We only supplied information, which helped find the heroin laboratories," he said.
Russia will continue to assist the suppression of drugs in Afghanistan with the provision of information, Lavrov said.
