MOSCOW. Nov 1 (Interfax) - The settlement of the Transdniestrian problem is one of the main items on the agenda of the talks on ways to strengthen the system of European security, said German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.
"Various measures were proposed during the talks between Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel in Meseberg, including proposals on the format of the talks on security policy. Transdniestria is a very important point in these talks, in our opinion," Westerwelle said in an interview with Ekho Moskvy radio on Monday.
The German foreign minister again voiced Germany's position that talks on Transdniestrian settlement must be resumed.
"It's better, we think, when talks are being held, than when they are not being held. We must by all means bring dialogue between the parties concerned up to date," he said.
He said Russia would hopefully make use of its influence for the sake of re-launching these talks.
