Police officer killed in Kabardino-Balkaria

NALCHIK. Nov 2 (Interfax) - A district police officer was killed in the Baksan district of Kabardino-Balkaria in southern Russia on Monday evening, a spokesman for the republic's top investigative agency told Interfax.

A police vehicle in which district police inspector Zaur Chipov was traveling in came under gunfire at about 9 p.m. Moscow time in the village of Islamei, he said.

The police officer was killed. The assailant fled, the spokesman added.

It was the second killing of a police official in the republic in the past 24 hours. Senior lieutenant Anzar Kardanov of the interior troops was killed in the village of Shalushka in the republic's Chegem district at about 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.
