Recall of Japanese ambassador not a problem - Russian Foreign Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - Moscow does not see a problem in the recall of Japanese ambassador to Russia, Masaharu Kono, in response to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to the Kuril Islands on Monday.

"We don't see a problem in that," a Russian Foreign ministry source told Interfax on Tuesday.

"The Japanese government wants to hear the Japanese ambassador's report. Therefore, the ambassador has been recalled to Tokyo," he said.

The long-lasting dispute between Russia and Japan over the territorial status of the southern islands of the Kuril Range sparked up again after President Dmitry Medvedev's trip to Kunashir. The trip angered Tokyo, which recalled its ambassador from Russia.

Meanwhile, Medvedev does not plan to cancel his visit to Yokohama to attend a summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, a Kremlin source told Interfax on Tuesday.
