Japan needs to accept that Kuril Islands part of Russia - Rogozin

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - Japan has no grounds to be furious over Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to the Kuril Islands, Russia's NATO envoy Dmitry Rogozin told Vesti 24 television on Tuesday.

"Japan must proceed from the fact that these islands are part of the sovereign territory of the Russian Federation. That is why their demarche is strange," Rogozin said.

Japan, as a country which unleashed the war and lost it, signed the act of unconditional surrender, he said.

"Unlike other kinds of surrender, an act of unconditional surrender orders the country that has signed it to leave its territory and political fate at the winner's mercy," Rogozin said.
