Riots force nearly 44,000 Osh residents to move to Russia

BISHKEK/OSH. Nov 3 (Interfax) - More than 43,000 residents of Osh in southern Kyrgyzstan have moved to Russia since unrest broke out earlier this year, the regional administration said.

"Some 43,750 people from our region have moved to Russia," the regional administration told Interfax.

Most people started leaving after riots in Osh from June 10-14, officials said.

By October, 56,173 residents had left the country, the administration said. That number includes 43,750 people (77.9%) who emigrated to Russia, 10,941 (19.5%) to Kazakhstan and 1,482 people (2.6%) who left for other countries.
