Around 1,300 arms seized by police in Moscow region

MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax) - Police in Moscow region have seized over 600 firearms during a week-long operation.

"The preventive operation called Civil Weapon was conducted in the Moscow region on October 25-31. It involved 1,165 law enforcement officers," a source said.

As a result of the operation, officers seized 367 gas spray guns, 304 taser weapons and 622 firearms, he said.

"A criminal case has been opened on the charge of illegal arms trade. A total of 999 Moscow region residents are facing administrative charges," the police spokesman said, adding that 159 weapons were surrendered voluntarily.
