Russian response on joint missile shield not expected at Lisbon summit - Rasmussen (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax) - NATO is not expecting Russia to give a specific response over a joint missile defense system at the Lisbon summit, said NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

I do not think there will be a clear response from Russia at the summit later this month with regard to the future territorial missile defense system, which is quite understandable, he told a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.

Russia is being proposed two-stage cooperation in this area, Rasmussen said.

The Lisbon summit will be our preliminary work that hopefully will later serve as a basis for making decisions on further cooperation in the future. It will be a very important, very positive step if we could agree to build our work in this way, the NATO Secretary General said.
