ST.PETERSBURG. Nov 3 (Interfax-AVN) - NATO's military delegation led by commander of NATO's European Command, Supreme Allied Commander Admiral James Stavridis, met with the command of the Western Military District in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.
"Admiral Stavridis said that all of NATO's war games near the Russian border are expected to be held in the presence of Russian servicemen as observers and participants," the military district's press group informed Interfax-AVN.
The Western Military District commander, Col. Gen. Arkady Bakhin, informed the delegation about the military district's structure, goals and tasks. Stavridis and Bakhin discussed the fight against terrorism and drugs, and ways to overcome the global financial crisis and to ensure cyber security. The parties said that Russia-NATO cooperation must be strengthened and promoted.
NATO officials will leave St. Petersburg on Wednesday after visiting the cruiser Aurora, the Peter and Paul Fortress and the Hermitage museum.
