Man suspected of killing Russian servicemen detained in Armenia - Investigative Committee

MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian law enforcement agencies have detained a citizen of Armenia suspected of killing Russian servicemen Artur Yenokian and Armen Zakharian, the military department of the Investigative Committee under the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Military investigators are currently conducting procedures to legally confirm the evidence obtained," it said.

Yenokian's and Zakharian's bodies with numerous knife wounds to their chests and backs were found on the grounds of a Russian military unit stationed outside Yerevan in the early hours of October 23, the committee said.

"The military investigations department opened a criminal case on murder charges," it said.

To provide practical and methodological assistance in solving the crime, members of the criminology department from the North Caucasus Military District and the combined counter-terrorist federal forces in the North Caucasus joined the investigation, it said.

Skillfully planned search and investigative measures helped not only identify but also detain the suspected murderer in a short time, it said.

The Armenian police had told Interfax earlier that the bodies of Armen Zakharian, 27, and Artur Yenokian, 39, who served at the Russian Federal Security Service's (FSB) border unit in Armenia, had been found in a military unit in Gyumri, northern Armenia.
