Russia, NATO will expand their cooperation on Afghanistan - Lavrov (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax) - Russia and NATO have reached an understanding on expanding cooperation on Afghanistan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference following the Moscow visit by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

"This is our common vital interest," Lavrov said.

The sides also confirmed their readiness "to work on a constructive agenda."

"We expect that the Russia-NATO Council relying on the principles of the Rome Declaration, the founding act, will be building up its potential," Lavrov said.

He said that the principles imply due account for the interests and concerns of each of the sides, and the involvement of each country in its national capacity in collective work.

Work on an equal, non-bloc basis, he said.
