One soldier killed, six others injured in accidental grenade blast in Dagestan

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Nov 8 (Interfax) - One soldier was killed and six others were wounded when a grenade exploded in Dagestan's Kayaken district, a source in the republic law enforcement services told Interfax.

The incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Saturday, when servicemen were boarding a motor vehicle after a security operation. One of the contract soldiers was killed when the safety pin of his grenade scraped against the edge of the motor vehicle. Six servicemen sustained injuries," the source said.

Careless handling of weapons is blamed for the fatal accident.

An investigation was started.
