TBILISI. Nov 8 (Interfax) - The 13 people accused of cooperating with Russia's main intelligence department were detained in Georgia as a result of a large-scale operation carried out by the Georgian Interior Ministry's counterintelligence division.
"During the operation, Georgia's counterintelligence department planted a former Soviet Army officer inside the [Russian] main intelligence department. He won the trust of Russian intelligence agents and started to work with them," the Georgian Interior Ministry said.
The Georgian counterintelligence department provided its agent with equipment and software he used to decipher data, the ministry said.
Initially, 15 people were detained, but two were freed after agreeing to cooperate with the investigation.
