Defense Ministry wants to buy Russian drones after testing

MOSCOW. Nov 8 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry has proposed buying several batches of Russian-made drones following two-month long comparative tests at the Gorokhovets and Alabino testing grounds of the Western Military District.

"After an analysis of more than 20 drone systems, made by Russian firms, a Defense Ministry commission selected several drone systems for their subsequent combat employment by the land forces and for making recommendations on their fine-tuning. A proposal was made to buy drone systems that would demonstrate best tactical and technical performance, including the Orlan, Lastochka and Eleron," Land Forces spokesman Sergei Vlasov told Interfax-AVN.

After the winning systems enter duty, large-scale purchases will be organized, he said.

"Drone characteristics were examined by experts of the Defense Ministry and by platoon, battalion and brigade commanders, who will use them in combat operations," Vlasov said.
