Weapons seized in Dagestan - counter-terror committee

MOSCOW. Nov 12 (Interfax) - A firearms smuggling ring has been broken up in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, the National Counterterrorism Committee said on Friday.

"A batch of firearms was confiscated on the premises of company Derbent-Progress as part of an investigation carried out by the Kizilyurt district police department. A Dragunov sniper rifle, two Stechkin automatic pistols, a 5.45-caliber Kalashnikov assault rifle, four hunting guns and ammunition for them were seized," the committee said.

The weapons belong to two employees of Derbent-Progress, it said.

"These measures helped dismantle a route for smuggling weapons and prevent their use for criminal purposes, including sabotage and terrorism," the committee said.
