TEHRAN. Nov 15 (Interfax) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is due to arrive in Baku on November 17 for a two-day official visit to meet with Azeri officials and to attend a summit.
Ahmadinejad will meet with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev and other high-ranking officials to discuss bilateral business relations and security issues, Iran's Press TV station reported on Saturday, citing Iranian Ambassador to Baku Mohammad Baqer Bahrami.
The Iranian leader will also take part in a Caspian summit aimed at settling disputes over the sea borders of Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
Caspian Sea legal issues are still regulated by agreements signed between Iran and the Soviet Union in 1921 and 1940, the Iranian ambassador said.
Despite vigorous talks, the legal status of the Caspian Sea has not been determined since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Tehran hopes that the upcoming summit will produce possible solutions to the dispute over the sea borders and navigation in the Caspian Sea based on a consensus, avoiding unilateral measures, Bahrami said.
