OSCE will not mediate beginning of Russia-Georgia talks at Astana summit

MOSCOW. Nov 15 (Interfax) - The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe does not intend to mediate the beginning of talks between Russia and Georgia at the upcoming OSCE summit in Astana, OSCE Secretary-General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut said.

Such mediation would require the readiness of both Russia and Georgia which is absent now, he said at a Monday press conference at the Interfax central office.

That was his answer to an Interfax question whether the OSCE expects the beginning of such talks to take place in Astana, whether the organization intends to promote them and act as mediator.

The secretary-general said "any summit is like a trade fair where various meetings are possible" adding that he believes Kazakhstan as the organization's chairman and host country will promote such meetings in every way.
