BANGKOK. Nov 16 (Interfax) - Viktor Bout's urgent extradition from Thailand to the U.S. causes surprise, Andrei Dvornikov, the head of the consular section of the Russian embasSy in Bangkok, said.
"Everything was done very fast, urgently and we even have a feeling that it was done secretly. It's surprising," Dvornikov told Interfax on Tuesday.
The Russian diplomat said Bout had apparently left Thailand an hour ago.
"However, it's unofficial information because we have not received notification from the local authorities," he said.
"We are surprised by the urgency of this extradition. Viktor Bout was on the plane less than three hours after the Thai government made its decision," the consul said.
"As a consul, I tried to arrange for Bout a meeting with his wife and lawyer," Dvornikov said, adding that no such meetings could be arranged due to the urgency of the extradition.
