New contract in the making to deliver 100 aircraft engines to China

ZHUHAI, China. Nov 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian state arms trader Rosoboronexport is preparing a new contract to sell an additional batch of 100 RD-93 aircraft engines to China, Rosoboronexport Deputy General Director Alexander Mikheyev has said.

"We are in consultations with the China Aviation Technology Import-Export Corporation (CATIC) on a regular option for 100 RD-93 engines," Mikheyev told reporters on Tuesday at the Airshow China 2010 in Zhuhai.

He said the earlier signed agreement planning for the delivery of 500 engines to China.

This project is well underway and aims to deliver aircraft powered with RD-93 engines to the Chinese armed forces and to third countries.

"We hope one more contract for the delivery of RD-93 engines will be signed soon," Mikheyev said.

"The contract for AL-31FN engines is being implemented and 86 such engines have been supplied to China," he said.

The Chinese side wants more AL-31FN engines. The Russian suppliers of these engines are the aircraft engine makers MMPP Salyut and UMPO. "We have received one more request from China and we are preparing to implement a regular contract in the near future," Mikheyev said.
