MOSCOW. Nov 22 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov hopes that the U.S. Senate will not drag out the ratification of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
"We note that [U.S. Secretary of State Hillary] Clinton and [Defense Secretary Robert] Gates and other members of the U.S. administration are practically involved in the ratification process and advocate the point of view that we fully share that it is a crucial treaty not only from the viewpoint of bilateral relations but also for global stability and strategic parity," Lavrov told Russian journalists.
"I hope the Senators will heed that and assume their share of responsibility for supporting this vital document," he said.
Earlier Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that on the ratification of the New START the Russian parliament will be acting in sync with the U.S. Congress.
