EU work should help boost stability in CIS states - Lavrov

MINSK. Nov 23 (Interfax) - Moscow treats the European Union's interests in CIS member states with respect, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We have a respectful attitude towards the interests the EU has within the CIS space, and we are committed to comprehensive cooperation with the EU in promoting the region's development," Lavrov said at a joint session of the boards of the Russian and Belarusian foreign ministries in Minsk on Tuesday.

"Measures taken by all of the sides, including the EU, should help strengthen economic and political stability across our common region," the minister said.

"The preamble to the third Russia-EU road map outlines the principle of complementarity of integration processes under way in Eastern and Western Europe," he said.

"We hope that the Eastern Partnership will develop in compliance with this principle," Lavrov said.
