MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax-AVN) - A strategic aerospace defense command will be formed in Russia soon, a high-placed Defense Ministry source told Interfax-AVN.
"A decisions is expected to be made soon to form a single aerospace defense command. It is a matter of months," he said in remarks about President Dmitry Medvedev's statement in his state of the nation address on the need to strengthen the country's aerospace defenses.
This idea has been under consideration for several years, he also said.
The plan involves integration of aerospace defense means of the Russian Air Force and the Space Forces' components - the early warning systems, space monitoring systems and systems of missile defense, he said.
Besides that, there are air defense means in the Land Forces and navy, the source said.
