U.S. allocates $2 mln for Georgian Coastal Guard watercraft upgrade

TBILISI. Nov 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The United States government has allocated $2 million for the upgrade and maintenance of the Georgian Coastal Guard patrol watercraft, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission in Georgia Kent Logsdon told journalists.

The U.S. government will help the Georgian Coastal Guard to ensure a prompt and effective response to maritime incidents based on security interests of Georgian citizens and foreign guests, Logsdon said.

This U.S. help is part of a plan to broaden maritime trade and tourism in Batumi and other coastal towns in Georgia, which led to the need for the Black Sea waters to be patrolled by the Georgian Coastal Guard.
