ASTANA. Dec 1 (Interfax) - The OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) Chairman-in-office and Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev has said the events in Kyrgyzstan have proved the need for the OSCE.
"The work carried out in 2010 in the framework of the existing negotiating formats on protracted conflicts gives reasons for cautious optimism, despite all the difficulties and the long-term nature of those problems. The tragic events in Kyrgyzstan proved the need for the OSCE, which will be further committed to stability and the sustainable development of this country," he said at an OSCE summit plenary session on Wednesday.
Kazakhstan's chairmanship "lent a new dynamic to the joint efforts to revive the regime of control over weapons and confidence measures," he said.
He urged "to show wisdom and the courage of true leaders and to reach a consensus on the life-changing issues of strengthening security and developing cooperation from Vancouver to Vladivostok."
"This would become the first real step toward implementing Kazakhstan's initiative to form the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian community of united and indivisible security. It will be this result of the Astana summit that will live up to the hopes of our nations for a safer and better world," Saudabayev said.
