Medvedev hopes to minimize threat of worsening Russia-U.S. ties (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said he hopes that the possibility of a worsening in Russian-U.S. relations due to the U.S. Democratic Party's failure in recent mid-term elections will be minimized next year.

"I hope that this threat will be minimized. There are people in America who sympathize with the so-called 'reset' of [Russian-U.S.] relations. But there are also people who think that all things evil are concentrated in the Russian Federation," Medvedev said in an interview with the heads of Russia's three leading television stations on Friday.

The fact that people with different views come to power is "a consequence of democratic development," he said.

"But I hope that, in any case, the American establishment and society will have enough tact and reserve to continue this course. President [Barack] Obama will possibly encounter more challenges now, but he will be able to cope with these problems," the Russian leader said.
