Russia opts for Mistral - Kremlin

MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - Russia has decided to purchase two French-made helicopter-carriers of the Mistral class for its Navy, a Kremlin press service report says.

"Russian President Dmitry Medvedev today notified French President Nicolas Sarkozy that in the framework of an international contest for the delivery of two helicopter-carrying landing vessels for the Russian Defense Ministry announced on October 5 the Russian government chose the offer made by the consortium consisting of the French DCNS company and Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation," the press release says.
