State of emergency remains in place in 10 districts, 3 towns of Moscow region

KRASNOGORSK. Jan 14 (Interfax) - A state of emergency, declared in 18 districts and four towns of Moscow region following electricity blackouts, has been lifted in eight districts and one town, Moscow Region Vice Governor Vasily Gromov has announced.

"In areas where the state of emergency has been lifted all emergency services remain in standby readiness," he told the emergency situations and fire prevention commission on Friday.

Gromov also said that nine blackouts have been reported in the region over the past 2 hours.

"Power supplies have been restored now. Problems of this kind are dealt with within two-three hours," he also said, adding that scheduled outages have been carried out in 126 populated areas with a population of 7,000.

"Power supplies have been restored to many households and will be restored to others between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.," Gromov said.

Planned outages will affect 13 districts on Saturday, he said.
