Afghanistan turns to U.S., Russia, UN for aid in combating drugs

MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax) - Afghanistan cannot cope with the problem of drug trafficking on its own, said Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

International drug trade has gone beyond Afghanistan's responsibility, Karzai said in an interview with the Russia Today television channel on Thursday.

The problem must be tackled by America, Russia, our neighbors and the UN, he said. They must help Afghanistan: if supply exists, demand will be there, too, Karzai said. It is a complex problem, which Afghanistan has neither the right of vote, nor capabilities to fight. International forces must deal with this influence jointly, Karzai said.
