Nazran militant sentenced to three years in prison

MAGAS. Jan 28 (Interfax) - The Magas district court in Ingushetia has issued a verdict against Ilez Agiyev, a member of an illegal armed group which operated in the republic's Nazran district.

"Agiyev, born 1986, is being sentenced to three years at a medium-security prison and six months of restricted freedom," the Federal Security Service (FSB) headquarters in Ingushetia told Interfax on Thursday.

The defendant was found guilty of membership in a military group and illegal trafficking of arms and ammunition, the source said.

"Agiyev fully admitted to the crimes he was charged with and actively cooperated with the inquiry, exposing other militants. Following the defendant's petition, the criminal case was heard by the court in a special procedure," the local FSB official said.

According to the inquiry, the convict acted as a gunsmith, he was in charge of organizing caches with weapons and ammunition, their combat readiness and transportation.

Overall, FSB investigations led to the 22 terrorist convictions in Ingushetia in 2010, the official said. Officers seized 216 firearms, 820 explosive devices, 28,000 small-arms cartridges and 881 kilograms of explosive substances.
