Former Duma Deputy Glushchenko to remain in custody until Feb 28

ST. PETERSBURG. Jan 28 (Interfax) - A St. Petersburg court has prolonged the custodial term of former State Duma Deputy Mikhail Glushchenko, accused of masterminding the murder of three Russian citizens and extortion, until February 28, Glushchenko's lawyer Yury Khabarov told Interfax on Thursday.

"My client's custodial term has been prolonged until February 28 because he has not have enough time to study the case materials," Khabarov said.

Glushchenko was arrested in June 2009 as part of an investigation into the murder of three Russian citizens - Yury Zorin, Viktoria Tretyakova and former State Duma Deputy Vyacheslav Shevchenko - in Cyprus in March 2004. He was then charged with masterminding these killings and extortion.

Glushchenko was earlier questioned as a witness during the inquiry into the assassination of Liberal Russian Duma Deputy Galina Starovoitova.
