Police chief, driver injured in Kabardino-Balkaria explosion

NALCHIK. Jan 31 (Interfax) - Head of the Urvan District Police Department Col. Anatoly Sundukov and his driver were hurt in an explosion in Kabardino-Balkaria on Monday morning, local investigators told Interfax.

The incident occurred on the Kavkaz federal highway at the entry to the village of Urvan at around 8 a.m.. "The police chief, who was on his way to work from Nalchik to Urvan, saw a poster on the roadside, which said, 'Emirate Caucasus. The Southeastern sector.' When he got out of the vehicle and came up to the poster in order to remove it, the improvised explosive device went off," the official said.

As a result of the blast both the police chief and his driver sustained fragment injuries, he said. Both have been hospitalized, their lives are not in danger.
