SOCHI. Jan 31 (Interfax) - The Krasnodar department of the Russian Investigative Committee opened 27 criminal cases of corruption against authorities and local companies in 2010.
"A lot was done to expose and investigate corruption in the local authorities and the police force in preparation for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games. The Sochi Investigative Committee opened 27 corruption cases in 2010, or eight cases more than in 2009," Sochi investigations department chief Alexei Kramarenko told Interfax.
"The Sochi investigative department, the Olympstroy state corporation, and the Krasnodar territorial police department opened six criminal cases over the fake employment of individuals in high-ranking positions at Olympstroy. The illegal salaries paid to these individuals from 2007 through 2010 topped 23 million rubles," he said.
