Russia against imposing advice on Egypt from outside - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Feb 2 (Interfax) - Russia is against imposing any guidance on Egypt from the outside and believes Egyptian political groups should settle the political crisis in that country on their own, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We don't see imposing any recipes and ultimatums from the outside as positive. Political forces in Egypt themselves should seek agreement," Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow in commenting on the current developments in Egypt.

"Egypt is our strategic partner and a key country in the Middle Eastern region," he said.

"Therefore, we cannot be indifferent to what is happening there. We are interested in seeing Egypt a stable, prospering, and democratic state, so that today's socioeconomic and political problems be settled peacefully as soon as possible," Lavrov said.

"It is up to the Egyptian politicians, the Egyptian people to decide how this should be done in particular," he said.
