Moscow region's prosecutor says trips paid for by himself, provided documents to Chaika

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - The Moscow region's Prosecutor Alexander Mokhov has provided to Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika documents confirming that he paid for his trips abroad himself.

"I insist that I paid for all my trips myself. I have provided appropriate documents to the prosecutor general," Mokhov told Interfax on Monday.

Prosecutor General's Office spokeswoman Marina Gridneva said earlier Mokhov and his first deputy Alexander Ignatenko had been suspended from their jobs for the period of the probe into the illegal protection by officials from the Moscow region's prosecutor's office of illegal gambling businesses.

Vladimir Markin, an official from the Investigations Committee, said the Investigations Committee had obtained documents confirming that organizers of illegal gambling businesses paid for the Moscow region's prosecutor's and other prosecutors vacations abroad.

Mokhov said his deputy Veniamin Selifanov, who has been recalled from vacation, will be fulfilling his duties for the period of the probe.
