Medvedev calls for combating organized crime in regions

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has called on law enforcement agencies in the regions to combat organized crime.

"If nothing is done, they should report it to their superiors," Medvedev said.

In his speech at the national coordination meeting of top law enforcement officials, Medvedev reiterated the need to give special attention to organized crime prevention. "We need to deal with the criminal groups in the regions in a consistent and tough manner. We shouldn't protect our people, but deal with this in a consistent and tough manner," the president said.

"If nothing is done, you should report it to their superiors. You should state directly in protocols all issues that arise in your territories. Otherwise we will have to take the heads of the regions to task," Medvedev said.
