MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - The dismissal of Federal Security Service (FSB) Deputy Director Vyacheslav Ushakov, initiated by FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov, may be connected, among other things, with the case of illegal gaming businesses in the Moscow region, a source told Interfax.
"Ushakov as a senior FSB official, was in charge of the investigation and information backup. He may have been connected with the release of the first report by the FSB's Public Relations Center about the role of the Moscow Regional Prosecutor's Office in this case, without waiting for a court ruling," the source said.
"This is only a theory, I have no complete information on Ushakov's dismissal," the source said.
"But the wording of the reasons for the dismissal: "Shortcomings in the work and service conduct abuses is rigorous enough," the source said.
Earlier Kremlin spokeswoman Natalya Timakova announced that President Dmitry Medvedev had freed Federal Security Service Deputy Director Col. Gen. Vyacheslav Ushakov from his duties and discharged him from military service.
"The decision was made at the recommendation of Federal Security Service [FSB] Director Alexander Bortnikov," Timakova told the press on Monday.
Asked what the reason was for the dismissal, Timakova said, "Shortcomings in his work and service code abuses."
