Global multiculturalism failed - Patriarch Kirill

MOSCOW. March 14 (Interfax) - The idea of multiculturalism has outlived itself and suffered a fiasco in practice, said Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.

"What is going on today in the world shows that the concept of multiculturalism has proved itself wrong. No peace is being achieved: what we have today in Western Europe is a very illustrative example of that," the patriarch said at a meeting with the global leadership group at the World Economic Forum in Moscow on Saturday.

"Various components are being poured into a glass to make a cocktail but you cannot shake them up. You have components but no cocktail. Maybe, they should not have been poured?.. You cannot make an Anglo-Saxon out of a Turk or Arab, even you try very hard," the patriarch said.

There is another model of inter-civilization relations where "everyone lives according to their beliefs, without having to accept a model that is culturally or philosophically extraneous to them," he said.
