Coalition must strictly abide by goal of UN Security Council resolution on Libya - Lavrov

CAIRO. March 21 (Interfax) - It is impermissible to use military force against the civilian population, and those fulfilling the UN Security Council resolution on Libya must keep to the resolution goal, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a press conference after negotiations with Secretary General of the League of Arab States (LAS) Amr Moussa.

"Attempts to use military force against one's own fellow citizens, the way it happened in Libya, are totally unacceptable," he said.

Lavrov said he regretted that Muammar Gaddafi did not listen to the international demand (UN Security Council resolution 1970).

The League of Arab States appealed to the UN Security Council for protecting civilians, Lavrov said. "We fully share this position. We think that those fulfilling the resolution must strictly abide by the goal declared by the UN Security Council," he said.
