Russia thanks Italy, Turkey, Egypt for helping release journalists in Libya

MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has thanked Egypt, Italy, and Turkey for their assistance in liberating Russian journalists captured in Libya.

"We especially appreciate steps by our Egyptian, Italian, and Turkish partners, who promptly approached the Transition National Council through their consulates general in Benghazi at our request, which helped quickly settle this incident," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its official website on Saturday.

It was reported earlier that a number of journalists from the NTV television channel and Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper were seized by Libyan rebels near the city of Ajdabiya.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has called on Russian journalists to adhere to safety precautions while working in Libya.

"We are calling on members of Russian media outlets once again to strictly adhere to safety precautions and regulations concerning their work imposed by the government bodies, especially when visiting areas of conflicts or increased tension," it said.
