SMOLENSK, Russia. April 11 (Interfax) - Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski on Wednesday commended "progress" in Russia's disclosure of documents on the Katyn massacre, mass executions of Polish war prisoners by Soviet secret police NKVD near the Russian village of Katyn, Smolensk region, in 1940.
"We are pleased with progress in this matter, and we believe that the declassification of all the documents would put a logical end to this issue," Komorowski said at a meeting in Smolensk with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Poland "wishes to close the chapter on Katyn in the great book of Russian-Polish relations," Komorowski said. "But in order to be closed, this chapter must be read to the end."
