Militant killed in Chechnya

MOSCOW. April 12 (Interfax) - A member of armed groups has been killed in the Naursky district of the Republic of Chechnya in Russia's North Caucasus, a source in law enforcement services told Interfax on Tuesday.

"Officers of the Russian Interior Ministry operating in the North Caucasus Federal District and servicemen of the republic's police special operations units found a gang member inside an abandoned shed near the village of Krechetov in the Naursky district. The militant offered armed resistance. The officers fired back, eliminating him," the source said.

None of the officers was killed or wounded in the shootout. The militant is being identified.

A Makarov pistol, five bullet shells and an RGN grenade were confiscated from the site.
