Arms supplies to Libyan insurgents at odds with UN resolution - Russian Foreign Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax) - Arms deliveries to Libyan insurgents and the sending of military instructors from some countries to Libya contradict the UN Security Council resolution, Russian Foreign Ministry deputy spokesman Alexei Sazonov told a Thursday press briefing.

"The information about arms supplies to Benghazi and the sending of military instructors and advisers from certain NATO member countries shows there is a danger of the coalition involvement in the land confrontation on the side of one party to the internal Libyan conflict. We think that such steps disagree with the goals of the UN Security Council resolution and are fraught with the escalation of violence," he said.

Russia calls on "all sides to strictly abide by the letter and the spirit of UN Security Council resolution 1973," he said.

"We are confident that the only way to ensure the security of the civilian population and to stabilize the situation in Libya is an immediate ceasefire and a dialog between Libyan parties to the conflict with support but without interference from abroad," he said.
