MOSCOW. May 6 (Interfax) - Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has criticized any interference in Libya's internal affairs and has called for an immediate ceasefire in the country.
"The Chinese side is convinced that people in countries all over the world, including people living in Middle East countries, are entitled to make their own choices of development paths in compliance with their country's national specifics," Yang said at a news conference after talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Friday.
Commenting on the situation in Libya, the Chinese minister said that from Beijing's point of view, "the biggest task at the moment is to secure an immediate ceasefire on the part of all of the sides involved in this situation in order to prevent a further escalation and a more extensive humanitarian catastrophe."
