ASTRAKHAN. May 10 (Interfax) - The Astrakhan region department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) has officially confirmed the detention of a group of extremists.
"A group of three persons has been detained who planned a terrorist attack in the city of Astrakhan ahead of the celebration of the 66th anniversary of V-E Day. A FSB special force eliminated a member of the illegal group - a 30-year-old resident of Astrakhan - in Komsomolskaya embankment," the press group of the department told Interfax.
"A search resulted in the discovery of an RGD hand grenade and a walkie-talkie. A Kalashnikov assault rifle and an explosive device were confiscated from the criminal's home," a press officer said.
Firearms and extremist literature were found at the homes of other members of the group.
