Russian submarine going to Mediterranean Sea to take part in Bold Monarch 2011 drill

SEVASTOPOL. May 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The Alrosa diesel-powered submarine and the Shakhtyor rescue towboat of the Russian Black Sea Fleet are going to the Mediterranean Sea to take part in the international rescue forces exercises Bold Monarch 2011, the fleet commander's press secretary Capt. 1st Class Vyacheslav Trukhachyov told Interfax-AVN on Thursday.

The vessels departed from Sevastopol and headed for the Black Sea straits. The submarine will go through the straits in the surfaced position. They will join the Apron rescue boat and the KIL-158 lifting and mooring barge, which departed earlier, he said.

Bold Monarch 2011 will take place offshore Spain from May 30 to June 9 and involve ships and rescue units of NATO member and partner countries, among them the United States, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, France, Norway, Greece and Turkey.
