MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax) - Israel hopes Russia will revise its policy of exporting arms to Syria and other volatile countries, Shaul Mofaz, the chairman of the Israeli parliament's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said after talks in Moscow.
"Our request to the Russian side is to revise its policy on this issue. We hope this will be done soon. I have the feeling after our discussions that our words have been heard and understood," he said at a press briefing in Moscow on Thursday.
The weapons Russia exports to Syria include Pantsir anti-aircraft systems and high-precision Yakhont cruise missiles, Mofaz said.
"We think that the current instability in Syria and other countries of the region should be taken into account in decision-making on weapons supplies," he said, adding that these weapons might fall into the hands of terrorist groups.
Mofaz recalled the incident involving a reportedly Russian-made Kornet missile that hit an Israeli school bus a month ago.
The Israeli side again thanked Russia for cancelling a contract for the supply of S-300 systems to Iran.
At the same time, it believes Russia should be a key participant in the economic sanctions against Iran.
