Two Ukrainians helped alleged Czech spies - Security Service

KYIV. May 16 (Interfax) - Two Ukrainians who had access to official secrets have been helping two Kyiv-posted Czech military diplomats who have been accused of spying and were declared personae non gratae on Friday, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) said.

"To carry out their criminal plans, [Zdenek] Kubicek and [Petra] Novotna established and maintained illegal contacts with Ukrainian citizens who had access to information constituting official secrets," SBU spokeswoman Maryna Ostapenko told a briefing on Friday.

She said it had been found out that two Ukrainians had been helping Kubicek and Novotna and that one of them was an employee of state enterprise Civil Aviation Plant 410.

Ostapenko said a Ukrainian military officer with the rank of major had been paid for passing to Czech intelligence classified information on weapons that were being developed.

The two Ukrainians are under prosecution, the spokeswoman said.
