MAKHACHKALA. May 16 (Interfax) - A police patrol was attacked in Makhachkala, Dagestan, early Monday morning. One of the assailants was injured and seized, a source at the Dagestani Interior Ministry told Interfax.
The shooting incident happened at 1:45 a.m. when the police patrol stopped two men to check their id's. "One of them opened gunfire at the policemen. An assailant was injured in the gunfire exchange and detained. The other man ran away," the source said.
"A sports bag containing a pistol, over a hundred submachine gun and pistol cartridges and a grenade was found at the clash scene," he said.
A trade house came under fire in Makhachkala early Sunday morning.
"Two men driving a Zhiguli car fired a grenade launcher round at the trade house at the 805th kilometer of the Caucasus federal route in the Makhachkala Sovetsky district and escaped," the source said.
No one was hurt. Window glass was smashed on the second floor.
Meanwhile, the police station in Karamakhi in the Buinaksk district of Dagestan came under grenade launcher and automatic gun fire, the district police department told Interfax.
"The grenade launcher shooting at the village police station started at about 11:00 p.m. Moscow time on Sunday. Several grenades hit the building. None of the officers were hurt, but the building was damaged," he said.
Two people were hurt in the explosion of the vehicle of a Dagestani police officer in Kaspiysk, a source in the local police force told Interfax.
"The Saturday explosion in Kaspiysk hurt a policeman and a local woman. Both were taken to the hospital," he said.
The bomb was equivalent to 150 grams of TNT.
A large batch of firearms was found in the mountains in Chechnya, a source in the Chechen Interior Ministry told Interfax on Saturday.
"The police and security services found the arms cache in the Vedeno district [in southern Chechnya] while verifying operative information. The cache contained 17 Kalashnikov submachine guns and cartridges," he said.
The weapons were stored in a deserted barn near the town of Gezenchu.
An Interior Ministry Forces serviceman was hurt in an incident during a reconnaissance operation in the Chechen highlands, a local police source told Interfax on Sunday.
"An Interior Ministry Forces serviceman stepped on a mine in the forest between the Achkhoi-Martan and Urus-Martan districts. His legs were injured. A helicopter delivered him to the hospital," the source said.
