Court asked to order arrest of former Moscow region prosecutors

MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax) - Investigators have asked Moscow's Basmanny Court to order the arrest of Roman Nishchemenko and Oleg Bazylyan, former prosecutors of the towns of Odintsovo and Serpukhov outside Moscow, court spokeswoman Yekaterina Korotova told Interfax.

"Documents demanding that Nishchemenko and Bazylyan be taken into custody have arrived," she said.

Law enforcement services said on Wednesday that the Odintsovo district's former Prosecutor Nishchemenko and the Serpukhov district's former Prosecutor Bazylyan had been detained as part of an investigation into claims of corruption in the Moscow region Prosecutor's Office.

Sources in law enforcement agencies told Interfax on Wednesday that six more former and current employees of the Moscow region's Prosecutor's Office could be detained soon as part of this inquiry.
