YEREVAN. May 19 (Interfax-AVN) - A longer presence of the Russian military base in Armenia will build up the security of both countries, Armenian National Security Council Secretary Artur Bagdasarian said at the international conference entitled 'The CSTO and the Caucasus: Regional Peace and Security Prospects.'
A protocol to that effect "not only resolved the problem of Russia's military presence in Armenia but also had an important military-political significance through contributing to the security of Armenia and Russia," he said.
Russia is the main ally and military-political partner of Armenia, Bagdasarian said.
The protocol says that the Russian military base will stay in Armenia until 2046. The Russian servicemen are based in Gyumri, north Armenia.
